I've talked a lot about my love for Morning Tubs. Since changing my daily routine and starting the day with Morning Tubs, my mornings have been much more fun for my students and me. This kind of morning work is way more engaging for my students and gives me the freedom to do ALL THE THINGS I need to do as students enter. But morning work doesn't have to be busywork. There are so many math skills that can be reinforced using Morning Tubs for morning work.
We all have shelves of math manipulatives, and we have our go-to resources depending on the unit we are teaching in math. Once the unit is done, then the manipulative goes back on the shelf. I stopped putting away the manipulatives and instead repurposed them and continued to them make them accessible to the kids and they love it.
Think about pattern blocks! Most primary teachers have a collection of pattern blocks on the shelf somewhere in the classroom but only use them during their patterning unit. However, with a bit of thinking, there are many more ways to use them for lots of different math topics. You might be asking...what else can I use them for?
These are a few of the ways I have used them. All of these are options in my Morning Tub Tasks for Pattern Blocks set.
